Near Misses

A dozen times this year we were supposed to get a big snow storm. A dozen times it has miraculously missed us. The last time it was freaky weird. You could drive ten miles from our city limits in any direction and find snow, but there was not a sticking flake to be found here. For the first time since I enrolled my oldest child in kindergarten, we have had a school year without a snow day. The Boy got a snow board for Christmas that has never been used. So, I know that snow is icky and inconvenient, but I really hope this one gets us. Keep your fingers crossed for us and I'll let you know tomorrow. (And this has nothing to do with wanting to get out of the two soccer games we have scheduled for tomorrow. If soccer is cancelled, we're meeting the baseball team at the Y for batting practice. No sleeping in for me.)

On another topic, The Boy has a friend staying the night. Our basement family room has a sectional sofa. It's pretty big and the two far ends are built in recliners. Whenever someone stays all night, The Boy gets the family room with the big screen. They play and then at a predesignated time (tonight it's midnight) the kids have to put away the toys, get ready for bed, and then get pillows and blankets for the sofa. I let them start a movie because that's just good psychology. I tell them that they don't have to go to sleep, but they need to get quiet so I can go to sleep. They docilely agree because I said they didn't have to go to sleep. But when the lights dim and the movie starts...yeah... ten minutes and they are sawing logs. It works like a charm.

Post Script:

Ah, hubris, thy name is MoJo. The kids didn't fall asleep. They watched the entire movie and didn't end up falling asleep until 3. As he ages, I have to keep taking tools out of my arsenal because they no longer work. I guess the movie trick has now been outgrown.

It's 10:00 am and still no snow. Sigh.

The snow missed us. Can you believe it?? Just a whole lot of rain and a light dusting of snow on the tops of a few non-garaged cars in the neighborhood.
